Pillars

The monumental and hierarchical character of the building dialogues with the territory, the hand of the architect is reflected in a particular treatment of each of its facades that allows a global volumetry that is immersed in its surroundings and constitutes an urban landmark. The location and design of the new building reflects his commitment to public space, architecturally and symbolically, in a period of republican reorganization of the country with the entry into force of the 1925 Constitution and after a period of profound social convulsion, on the basis of an academic and political environment conducive to the study of law, which continues to the present day.

The completion of the main construction work took place on January 31, 1937, and the rationalist proposal, using a simple and abstract formal language of ornamental sobriety, reflects a representative work of Modern Architecture in Chile, supported by the use of a new material, concrete, It allows a structural definition based on pillars and beams, configuring a space of continuity and allowing the fluidity of circulations that connect the interior wings, the access atrium and the exterior, giving itself, through a staircase as a forum, to the territory of the river and the park.
